FCED serves to promote, identify, and assist businesses with location, expansion, and capacity-building services within the City while creating systems and programs that encourage commercial and retail development. <br>The Economic Development Department Business Investment Specialist's primary responsibilities will involve working to advance the goals of the Business Investment efforts in Fairfax City, consistent with the strategic work plan and in alignment with the adopted City Council goals. The Business Investment Specialist will work under the direction of the Senior Assistant Director / Business Investment or their designee to implement initiatives that support the business community and economic growth within Fairfax City. <br><br> <strong>Examples Of Duties</strong><br>Daily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: <br>Conduct outreach to businesses in target/priority industries in line with retention, expansion, and attraction efforts; set meetings with prospective business leads. <br>Advance the development of a strong business ecosystem in Fairfax City by promoting existing services and programs and helping to develop new beneficial relationships.<br>Help to advance FCED's relationship with their university partners, including George Mason University, the Mason Enterprise Center and other Mason-sponsored economic development initiatives.<br>Analyze real estate data from CoStar relating to lease renewal information and local commercial property data trends; and help to prepare that information for presentation to ED leadership and Commissioners.<br>Develop and draft content for the Business Investment team and inclusion in FCED's monthly newsletter and other outlets.<br>Ensuring relationship management practices in economic development CRM (BluDot). <br>Represent FCED at local, regional, national and international events and call trips.<br>Represent the Director/Senior Assistant Director at events and speaking engagements, as needed.<br>Other duties as assigned by the Director and Senior Assistant Director that advance the business investment priorities.<br><br>The duties listed above are intended only as an illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.<br> <strong>Qualifications</strong><br>A Bachelor's Degree in real estate, economics, business management, public administration, marketing/ communications, or related is preferred. <br><br><strong>Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</strong><strong>:</strong><br>Should be familiar with Northern Virginia (and know of the Northern Virginia Economic Development Alliance). <br>Attention to detail and ability to work independently is a significant component of this position's work.<br>Should be self-starting with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team and should be comfortable partnering with multiple levels of government within the City and Commonwealth. <br>Must be able to exercise discretion and confidentiality when working with stakeholders, must be comfortable with public speaking, and must have excellent writing and communication skills.<br>Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Slack, and either experience in BluDot (CRM) or the ability to learn it quickly.<br><strong>Special Certifications and Licenses:</strong><br>A state issued driver's license is preferred but not required (employees will be given access to an agency vehicle for business tours and out-of-city meetings). A valid passport is required for international business investment trips.<br><strong>Supplemental Information</strong><br>Expectations: The selected employee should have experience and understanding of business investment practices and tactics in municipal Economic Development, should know where to find qualified leads for attraction efforts, should have a consistent email cadence to set meetings for the department, and be committed to recording interactions on the department CRM. <br> <br>Provide your resume and cover letter highlighting your qualifications, familiarity with Economic Development, and framing your interest in working for Fairfax City Economic Development by July 18th, 2025.
