REPORTS TO: Associate Director of Nursing | Director of Nursing

The ASN Nursing Instructor is a faculty member responsible for providing high-quality instruction and guidance to students in the Associate of Science in Nursing program. This individual will contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing curriculum, as well as participate in student advising, clinical supervision (if applicable), and departmental activities. The ASN Nursing Instructor fosters a supportive and engaging learning environment that prepares students for successful careers as registered nurses.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and deliver engaging and effective lectures, discussions, laboratory sessions, and/or clinical experiences based on established curriculum objectives.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies and technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Develop and evaluate student learning through various assessment methods, including exams, quizzes, assignments, projects, clinical evaluations, and simulations.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students on their academic and clinical performance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of nursing practice and educational trends.
  • Adhere to program and institutional policies and procedures.

Curriculum Development and Evaluation:

  • Participate in the development, review, and revision of the ASN nursing curriculum to ensure alignment with current nursing standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the selection of textbooks, learning resources, and clinical sites.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of teaching strategies and course content and make recommendations for improvement.

Student Support and Advising:

  • Serve as an academic advisor to assigned students, providing guidance on academic progress, course selection, and career goals.
  • Maintain regular office hours to be accessible to students.
  • Address student concerns and provide appropriate referrals as needed.
  • Act as a role model for professional nursing behavior.

Departmental and Institutional Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings, faculty meetings, and program-related committees.
  • Contribute to the recruitment and retention of nursing students.
  • Participate in program accreditation activities.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain expertise in nursing and education.
  • Contribute to the overall mission and goals of the institution.
  • May participate in scholarship, research, and/or community service activities as appropriate.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing Program or designated administrator.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is preferred. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with a commitment to enroll in an MSN program within a specified timeframe may be considered

Licensure:

  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Florida or eligibility for licensure.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of recent clinical nursing experience relevant to the areas of instruction.
  • Prior teaching experience in nursing education at the college level is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of nursing principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Understanding of adult learning principles and effective teaching methodologies.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and clinical partners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in using technology for instruction, communication, and documentation.
  • Commitment to student success and professional development.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Experience with simulation in nursing education.
  • Certification in a nursing specialty.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods during lecture.

  • Classroom setting and office environment.
