Symetra is seeking an experienced leader to head our Stop Loss Captives business!

About The Role

As AVP, you’ll shape strategy, lead a specialized team, and position Symetra as a market innovator. This is a high-impact role requiring deep expertise in stop loss captives, strong financial acumen, and validated industry leadership.

What You Will Do

  • Strategic Leadership:
    • Define and implement Symetra’s captive strategy, including product positioning, pricing, and distribution.
    • Effectively communicate and own the monitoring of market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics to keep Symetra ahead.
    • Represent Symetra in industry panels, conferences, and forums.
  • Business Growth & Relationship Management:
    • Grow Symetra’s captive market presence by building relationships with brokers, TPAs, consultants, and captive managers.
    • Present Symetra’s solutions with clarity and credibility to clients and industry partners.
    • Drive new business opportunities while ensuring profitability and client retention.
  • Operational Excellence & Financial Stewardship:
    • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, and sales teams to ensure financial success.
    • Communicate financial performance, risks, and exposures to internal and external partners.
    • Lead captive program reporting with transparency and accuracy.
  • Team Building & Leadership:
    • Build and lead a cross-functional team focused on captive growth, including distribution, underwriting, and analytics
    • Provide coaching, mentorship, and succession planning to foster a high-performing, collaborative culture.

Compensation

Salary Range: $137,500 - $229,200 plus eligibility for annual bonus program and long-term incentive plan

Who You Are

  • 10+ years in stop loss insurance, with at least 5 years in the captive space.
  • Proven success in business development and financial management within stop loss captives.
  • A change agent and thought leader within the captive marketplace.
  • Strong presentation skills with experience engaging executive audiences and industry groups.
  • Strong relationship building and management with clients and internal partners.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, risk management, or related field required.
